Counties seek membership in NET RMA

By BRENDA ALLUMS

Two more counties are seeking membership in the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA) and will be seeking approval from the Gregg County Commission Monday.

Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the county courthouse.

Harrison and Upshur counties have applied for membership in NET RMA.

Earlier in the year, Rusk and Cherokee counties joined the transportation alliance.

Before their membership is final Smith and Gregg county officials must approve resolutions approving their membership. Then those resolutions will be sent to the Transportation Commission for action.

The NET RMA was started a year ago by commissioners from Gregg and Smith counties in an attempt to help find ways to fund transportation needs that will augment those from the state.

Gregg County Commissioners are also expected to accept a 1982, 1ton Wildland fire truck from the city of Longview and then transfer it to the Judson Metro Volunteer Fire Department.

"The city of Longview is donating the fire unit to the county," County Judge Bill Stoudt said. "It's to be used for grass fires."

In other business the court is scheduled to consider requests from all four commissioners for road work in their precincts.

Commissioners are also expected to consider approval of the grant funding distribution from the Tobacco Committee's recommendations.
