United Fund of Kilgore allocates 100 percent Directors of the United Fund of Kilgore Friday approved final distribution of last year's fund-raising campaign. And then they distributed unspent funds accumulated over recent years. In the meeting marking the end of Bob Davis' term as president, the board voted to distribute $13,000. With that distribution, the 21 agencies funded by the United Fund received 100 percent of their allocation for the year. Even after that, though, United Fund was left with $5,600 in the bank. "I know we have to keep a bank account so we can cover expenses starting up next year's campaign," Davis said, "but I'd like to see us distribute part of that balance. I think the money's there to help the community." Directors agreed to maintain a minimum fund balance of $3,000 and to set aside $1,000 for emergencies that might arise in the community. They then approved an additional distribution of $1,000 to the Community Crisis Center, $800 to Helping Hands and $800 to the East Texas Treatment Center. Davis announced that Carol Hinton, executive secretary for 20 years, is retiring from her role at United Fund. She will be succeeded by Amelia Free. Roland Velvin will preside over the United Fund next year and Pat McCrory will serve as campaign chairman.
