West Rusk Junior High awards students

West Rusk Junior High held its annual AWARDS ASSEMBLY on Thursday, May 18 in the newly renovated West Rusk auditorium. 52 eighth graders were awarded Certificates of Promotion.

Tiffany Coward, daughter of Rickey and Joy Coward, finished 1st in the West Rusk Junior High class of 2006. Tiffany is the granddaughter of Maggie Norris of New London and Wayne and Joyce Snider of Hawkins. Tiffany completed the 7th and 8th grades with an average of 95.92. Tiffany has played volleyball, basketball and track. In the 8th grade, she placed in UIL calculator and in spelling. Tiffany was named "Great Student" by the WRJH faculty both in the 7th and 8th grades. She also is a member of the Raider band placing 1st at the solo and ensemble contest playing flute. Tiffany hopes to pursue a career in medicine with plans to attend Baylor University.

Brittany Sudweeks, daughter of Will and Gail Sudweeks of New London completed WRJH with an average of 95.27. Brittany is the granddaughter of John and Paula Ashby of Henderson and Max and Dorene Sudweeks of Kingston, UT. Brittany served as secretary of the West Rusk Junior High Beta Club. She was selected as a "Great Student" two years by the WRJH faculty. She has represented her school as a cheerleader her 7th and 8th grade years. She also has played volleyball, basketball and track. She placed 2nd in the mile run at the district track meet. Brittany also received a 1st division at UIL for a flute ensemble and a 1st division on a piano solo. She also won the Sonatina Festival, the Bach Festival and placed 1st in the Karp Festival for piano solos. Brittany plans to pursue a career in architecture.

Other honor students include: Amber McAvoy, Trent Dorsey, Cheree' Young, Sandy Williams, Brittany Strickland, Stephanie Wallace, Casey Freeman, Logan Tritt, Randy Baker, Jonathan Brewer, Kayla Walker and Abigail Rodriquez.

"Great Students" chosen by the faculty for their outstanding character and hard work for the 20052006 school year were also honored. They include 6th graders: Madeline Gibbs, Kellen Sudweeks, Kari Courtney, Joseph Dees, Haley Copeland, Lucas Furguson, Lindsey Tritt, Matthew Stephenson, Kortney Thomas, Grey Bryan, Deyton Jones and Madison Brian. 7th graders include: Kaylah Fredrickson, Chris Savala, Kanesha Roberson, Treyson Antonick, Rebecca Waller, Bradley Hammett, Danielle Blackmon, Max Thompson, Chelsey Arterberry, Cody Gray, Onisha Oliver and Bradley Melton. 8th graders include: Brittany Sudweeks, Logan Tritt, Stephanie Wallace, C.J. McCabe, Amber McAvoy, Jonathan Brewer, Cassidy Furguson, Trent Dorsey, Tiffany Coward, Colton Isom, Brittany Smires and Casey Freeman.
