Cowboys bring in undrafted free agents
IRVING (AP) - Linebacker John Saldi, the son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jay Saldi, and Yale quarterback Jeff Mroz were among 10 undrafted rookies signed by the club Thursday in time for a weekend minicamp. The team also announced that nine rookie free agents will be joining those players and the eight players drafted last weekend. The first practice is at 2 p.m. today, followed by coach Bill Parcells' much-anticipated news conference. The rest of the rookie free agent signees are receiver Miles Austin (Monmouth College), defensive end Stephen Bowen (Hofstra), safety Darrell Brooks (Arizona), tight end Erik Gill (Pittsburgh), linebacker Oliver Hoyte (North Carolina State), receiver Sam Hurd (Northern Illinois), linebacker Kai Parham (Virginia) and tackle Dennis Roland (Georgia). The workout group includes many players with local ties - cornerback Quincy Butler of TCU, kicker Chris McMurtay and linebacker D.D. Lee of SMU and cornerback Ronald Jones of Texas A&M. Also on Thursday, the Cowboys announced a deal to bring their training camp back to Texas. The Cowboys will spend their summers back in San Antonio from 2007 to 2011. The Cowboys trained inside the Alamodome in 2002 and 2003. A scheduling conflict the following year led to a return to Oxnard, Calif., through this summer. Now, they have a fiveyear deal to remain in Texas.
