TESSIE PORTLEY MORROW

Mrs. Tessie Mae Morrow was born November 3, 1928 to the late James and Sallie Templeton Portley.

She departed this life on May 2, 2006 in Hughes Springs, Texas.

Tessie attended Kilgore public schools and graduated from C. B. Dansby High School in Kilgore, Texas. She later matriculated from Prairie View A&M University in Hempstead, Texas and garnered her Master's of Education Degree from North Texas State University.

Tessie was married to the late Mr. Lawrence Morrow.

She united with the Kilgore Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas at an early age and remained a member until her demise.

She was an active member of Texas State Teacher's Association, National Education Association Retired, Concerned Citizens Retirement Club, AARP, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.

She retired from Longview Independent School District in 1986 after 36 years as an educator. After retirement, she worked an additional 14 years for a total of 50 years in education.

She is survived by her son, Kirk Portley of Ore City; a first cousin, Ruthie Mae Davis of Big Sandy; a very special friend, Lawrency Shiner of San Diego, CA and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Public viewing will be from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2006 at Victory Funeral Services.
