Douglas Ray Messer and Peggy Funderburk were married May 5, 1956 in Kilgore and are currently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They met while attending North texas State College in Denton. They moved to Jacksonville, NC where Doug was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon returning to kilgore, he went to work at Texas Eastman in longview. He retired after 33 years there. They have two children; Vicky Krantz in Houston, and Blake Messer in Atlanta. They have seven grandchildren, ages eight through twenty-one. Peggy enjoys reading and working puzzles now that she is no longer active in P.T.A., High School Orchestra activities, etc. Doug enjoys outdoor activities and working in the Masonic Lodge.
