Three Rangers, Lady Ranger sign with four-year schools
Three members of the Kilgore College Rangers men's basketball team and one KC Lady Ranger signed on Wednesday to continue their education and on-court careers at four-year institutions. Point guard Ron Larris signed with Georgia State University, where another Ranger - Antonio Odom - had signed earlier this season. Larris, a Gainesville, Fla., native, only averaged about eight points per game, but was an 80 percent free-throw shooter for coach Scott Schumacher and did his job at the point, averaging 5.5 assists per game. Also signing on Wednesday: Marcus Hubbard, who is also going to Georgia. He signed with Georgia Southern. Hubbard averaged 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Rangers. Hubbard is from West Palm Beach, Fla., and was the Rangers' only member of the Region XIV Conference All-Region first-team. Jonathan Leopaul of Lake Charles, La., signed with hometown team McNeese State. Leopaul dropped in 12.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 2005-06. And Savannah Thompson of the Lady Rangers signed with Texas Woman's University. Thompson, a Metroplex-area high school standout, netted 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game this year.
