Seven members of the Kilgore High School boys soccer team have been recognized for their play in the 2006 season as part of District 16-4A's All-District team.

The team, chosen only by the coaches of the district's eight teams, was picked recently, and announced yesterday, following the playoff loss of Pine Tree, the last district team involved in the Class 4A playoffs.

Kilgore senior Rafael Lara was named a first-team midfielder.

"I was happy about that, because we didn't move him to midfield until around the beginning of the second round (of district play)," said coach Kris Duplissey.

Lara was Kilgore's only firstteamer. Sophomore goalkeeper Everaldo Delmas, junior midfielder Angel Garcia and senior Alfredo Garcia, who led the Bulldogs in goals, were all named to the second team. Senior Kaleb Nix, who was second on the team in goals, was named honorable mention, as were defenders Will Estel, a sophomore, and Abraham Requena, a senior.

The Bulldogs, who missed the playoffs, were young in 2006, but bring back a lot for 2007.

Pine Tree won the district and the Pirates' Tony Guillen was named offensive most valuable player. Henderson goalkeeper Jarrett Davis was named defensive MVP, and overall MVP was Nacogdoches' Michael Rice.

Newcomers of the year: Henderson senior Chris Dier, a transfer from Louisiana, and J.T. Goodwin of Nac. Hallsville's Kyle Huesing was named sophomore of the year and Nac's Farshid Niroumand was chosen coach of the year.

The three playoff teams were PT, Nac and Henderson.

Next year, the Bulldogs will be part of District 17-4A. Some of their current district rivals will join them: PT, Hallsville, and Marshall. Other district rivals next year will be Lindale, Chapel Hill, Athens and Whitehouse.

Nacogdoches, Henderson, Jacksonville, Livingston, Lufkin Hudson, Center, Jasper and Palestine will make up District 18-4A.
