THE CRISIS CENTER OF KILGORE will kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month on Apr. 4 at 12 p.m. at the Gregg County Courthouse. There will be a Survivor's Story and the reading of the proclamation by Judge Becky Simpson following. Survivors are invited to attend and speak out. RUSK COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE will host a chili cook-off from 3 7 p.m. on April 6 to benefit its scholarship fund at the Rusk County Youth Expo in Henderson. The event is limited to 20 teams and each must prepare 10 gallons of chili. Bowls, drinks, crackers and such will be provided by RCEC. There is no entry fee and each team will get to designate the winner of a $100 scholarship. A total of $3,000 in scholarships will be distributed. For more info, call 903/657-4571. THE CHILD ADVOCATE OF CRISIS CENTER will lead children & staff of Kilgore College Early Childhood Development Center in a Balloon Release to focus attention on child victims of Sexual Assault and Family Violence. This will occur Apr. 6 at 10 a.m. A WALK IN RECOGNITION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH will be led by Phyllis Foster Apr. 19 at 1 p.m. beginning at the Kilgore Police Station and ending at Kilgore City Park. Mayor Joe Parker will read a proclamation stating the resolve of all participants to promote awareness and prevention of sexual assault.
