TV director visits KC drama class this week

Sean Mulcahy Sean Mulcahy Sean Mulcahy, a television director for the ABC sitcom "Rodney," which stars KC former student and Longview native Rodney Carrington, will be on the Kilgore College campus Tuesday through Thursday, March 21 - 23.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Mulcahy will visit theater classes. On Wednesday evening he will join KC drama instructor Raymond Caldwell to host an open discussion about the similarities and differences between acting for the stage and for television sitcoms. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Van Cliburn Auditorium and will include the screening of two episodes of "Rodney," which just finished taping its second season.

Mulcahy has worked in television since 1984 when he left New York to go to Los Angeles as part of the Olympic Triathlon Team. He has worked on a number of television series, and for the past two years he has served as the first assistant director and as director for the "Rodney" show, filmed at the CBS Television Studio Center. He wife Deanne, a native of El Paso, also works in television as a dialogue coach and a writer. They have one daughter, Katie.

During the fall semester of 2005, Caldwell spent six weeks on the "Rodney" set in Hollywood, observing the process of producing the half-hour, weekly television comedy which airs on the ABC network Tuesday nights. Mulcahy was Caldwell's supervisor during his stay in California.

All Kilgore College students and personnel, as well as the general public, are invited to attend Wednesday night's event. The Mulcahy-Caldwell joint presentation runs from 7 until 10 p.m. and will be divided into two parts with a 15-minute intermission. Admission is free and reservations are not required.
