Rusk County Youth Project Show is underway

Youth showing goat. The 37th Annual Rusk County Youth Project Show is set for Mar. 22-25. As always, we have a great group of kids and projects ready for the upcoming show. The Annual Rusk County Youth Project Show Buyers Dinner was held last Tuesday evening at the Expo Center with a very good crowd on hand. Project Show committee member, Ryan Ellis and his family did a great job in preparing the meal. Committee members Penney Hendrix, and Katrina McKee also did an excellent job of overseeing the planning and decorating along with serving the meal and a lot more in making the night a good success. This year the Scholarship recipients were recognized at the Buyer's Dinner as opposed to Saturday evening prior to the Rusk County Youth Project Show sale of champions as in the past. Several organizations presented scholarships beginning with the Rusk County Youth Project Show which presented scholarships to Laura Clark, Joseph Roberson, Cheyenne Yandle, Candice Tippett, Cory Brown, Cace Hurt, and Laura Wilkins. The Rus k County Rodeo Association presented scholarships to Rustin Wilkerson, Cheyenne Yandle, Brooke Risinger and Laura Clark. The Rusk County GoTexan Committee presented the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship to Laura Clark, and the Go-Texan Committeemen's Scholarship to Cheyenne Yandle. The Rusk County 4-H Adult Leaders presented scholarships to Laura Clark, and Blaine Perry. The Robert Morris Memorial Scholarship was presented to Rustin Wilkerson. The Texas Extension Education Association presented scholarships to Laura Clark, Lauren Jones, and Jessica Thompson. In all, nineteen scholarships were presented to graduating seniors that have all been participants of the Rusk County Youth Project Show.
Michael Bartley A few changes in the schedule are in store for this years Project Show. Most notably are some of the changes in the schedule of events. For instance, the creative Arts judging will take place on Thursday morning which was held on Friday the last several years. Another change is the market goat judging which is scheduled to take place this year on Thursday afternoon this year but has been held on Friday in the past. Another change in the schedule will be the judging of market hogs and breeding gilts which will take place this year on Friday morning of the show as opposed to Thursday mornings in previous years shows. Additionally, judging of breeding heifers will be held on Saturday morning prior to the judging of market steers. The Shop project and Creative Arts auction is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 24 and the Sale of Champions is scheduled to begin promptly at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 25. Come on out and support the youth of Rusk County.
