County offers gardening class

Do you need advice on how to have a beautiful lawn this spring and summer? Are you interested in learning how to use plants and garden accessories creatively? Maybe you'd like to learn the basics of gardening and how to develop a flower garden that can be shared with other.

If so, then plan to attend the Spring Garden Landscape Seminar sponsored by the Gregg County Master Gardeners.

The annual event is scheduled Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Faith Center, 400 N. Fredonia in Longview.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the program will start at 8:30 a.m. Dr. James McAfee, associate profession and extension turfgrass specialist at Texas A&M University in Dallas, will speak on "Best Management Practices for Home Lawns in East Texas."

Dr. Neil G. Odenwald, professor emeritus at the Louisiana State University School of Landscape Architecture, will speak on "The Vertical Garden: Embellishing Walls, Fences and Other OFten Forgotten Parts of Landscape wit the Creative Use of Plants and Garden and Accessories."

He will also speak on "The Bountiful Flower Garden: Going Back to the Basics of Gardening and Sharing Plants with Others."

Related vendor exhibits will be displays and door prizes awarded.

Admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Gregg County Extension Office, 405 E. Marshall.
