Seeds for Life for Garden Club

Civic Garden Club met on Mar. 8 at the Kilgore Community House. The meeting was called order by Sandee Walters, President. Louise Raby gave the invocation.

Martha Clark called roll, and read minutes of the February meeting. Marian Richardson, gave the Treasurer's Report. Correspondence was read by Wanda Bittick, including an invitation to the Tyler Master Gardener Home Tour on May 13.

Member donations were made to Penny Pines, Seeds for Life and Helping Hands.

Martha Clark introduced member Pam DeCeault who gave a short informational talk on the Habitat for Humanity House to be built by women and invited members to take part monetarily and/or by volunteering to help build.

Martha Clark and Sandee Walters gave horticulture tips.

Gay Leath reminded members of the pilgrimage in April and also announced a change in the location, date and speaker for the May program.

Sandee Walters reported that all the money has been received from the Council and the three garden clubs for the Blue Star Memorial project. She will begin talks with TXDot.

Gay Leath introduced our speaker for the day, Linda Dyer of Tyler, who is State Chairman for the Seeds for Life Project. Linda gave a very informative talk on why seeds for both vegetables and flowers are needed for developing countries in South and Central America.

Our bird study for the day was given by Gay Leath who gave a very interesting talk on Woodpeckers

Announcements included the upcoming District Spring Convention in Jefferson and the South Central Region Convention in Tyler.

After the regular meeting, the committee working on the summer zone workshop has a short planning meeting.
