Joe White speaks at joint meeting of Women's and Coterie Club
Dianna Jones, Joe White and Margaret Cibele The Kilgore Woman's Club met on Mar. 9 at the Oil Museum in a combined meeting with the Coterie Club. The hostess for the meeting was Gina Joseph assisted by Ruth Ann Camp and Demi DeSantis.
Refreshments were arranged on two beautifully decorated tables. The club members enjoyed a time of visitation with each other and members of the Coterie Club.
Woman's Club President, Diana Jones, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. All business was dispensed with for the day. Ms. Jones invited everyone in the Coterie Club to attend the Spring Tea on Apr. 13 at the home of Barbara Miller.
Gina Joseph was introduced, who in turn introduced Joe White, curator of the Oil Museum. Mr. White regaled the members with amusing antidotes from the museum. He also discussed various ideas for getting schools to recognize that the oil museum is a learning experience and not just a field trip. "The museum is a good tool for teaching children not only facts about Texas but facts about energy as well," said Mr. White.
In the twenty-five years it has been open to the public, one million, two hundred and fifty thousand people have been through the museum. This generates revenue not only for the museum but for other retail stores in the area.
Mr. White concluded his informative and entertaining program by inviting anyone who wanted to assist at the museum to come and talk to him.
Ms. Jones announced that the next meeting will be at the home of Virginia Wallace on Mar. 23. The meeting was adjourned.
Woman's Club members who attended were Ruth Ann Camp, Sharon Cox, Dimi DeSantis, Janie Dickerson, Carroll Bolton, Peggy Bowne, Marada Early, Frankie Florey, Dianna Jones, Gina Joseph, Carolyn Kennedy, Virginia Wallace and Ellen Watson.
