City yet to fill Brady's Place 4

By BRENDA ALLUMS news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

Kilgore City Commissioners formally accepted the resignation of Place 4 Commissioner Billy Bob Brady Monday night.

Brady announced his intention of resigning from the commission at its February 21 meeting.

After his announcement on February 21, Brady walked out of the meeting.

In Brady's formal letter of resignation, he said he felt "it is in the best interest of our city that I resign my position as City Commissioner Place 4."

He said he made the decision because the commission must work as a team to accomplish work in the best interest of Kilgore residents.

"Due to my beliefs concerning millions of tax payer dollars involved with our half-cent sales tax and how it is being spent, I will not be able to be an agreeing team member," Brady said. "This will accomplish nothing for our city."

Brady, who served on the commission since 2001, said, "It has truly been an honor and privilege to be one of your city officials ... I love the people of Kilgore and I wish everyone good health and prosperity."

The city charter requires the commission to appoint someone to fill Brady's unexpired term.

Monday night, before announcing the acceptance of Brady's formal resignation, commissioners held an executive session.

After the executive session, Mayor Joe T. Parker said no decision on a replacement had been made.

"We don't want to rush the process," he said. "We want to find someone who will serve the citizens of Kilgore and do a good job."

B.J. Clark was named to the city's Planning and Zoning Board following the executive session.
