Tom Kinkaid and Johnnie Dowden married on Feb. 6,1956 in Leesville, LA. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a dinner held in their honor on Saturday Feb. 4, 2006 at the Kilgore Missionary Baptist Church. Many fellow church members and family members, some from as far away as Iowa, attended the event. When the couple married, Tom was in the United States Army and Johnnie was employed as a beautician. They lived in Baltimore, MD during Tom's army years and later moved to Shreveport, LA. In 1971 the Kinkaid family came to Kilgore where Tom and Johnnie purchased East Texas Glass Company. Back then East Texas Glass Company was also a picture framing business. The couple worked side by side for 25 years in the glass business before retiring in August 1996 at which time their son bought the business. Tom is still seen quite often working with his son. The couple has two children, Denise Croley and Bert Kinkaid, both of Kilgore. They have one granddaughter, Amy Kinkaid, and two grandsons, Josh and Cayden Croley, all of Kilgore. The Kinkaid couple enjoys their grandchildren, gardening, country and gospel music, and an occasional trip to Branson, MO.  |
