WOMAN BUILDERS GO TO WORK

Training will take place on Thursday, Feb. 2, and Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Habitat offices, 809 S. Martin St. An additional class will be scheduled, if demand dictates.
Each class is limited to approximately 12 participants, so registration is required. To register, call (903) 986-1912 (Habitat office). The office is open until 1 p.m. each afternoon; after 1 p.m., you may leave a message.
Although training is not required to work on the Women Build home, those women wishing to take an active role in the actual construction process, and who have never had construction experience, are encouraged to attend. Participants in the training classes should bring a nail apron or tool belt, hammer, and a 25-foot tape to the training. A speed square is also helpful.
The first training class will include how to read plans, use of power tools, accurate measuring, and other skills necessary to undertake framing of the house. Additional classes will be held throughout the building process. Groundbreaking ceremony and first workday for the house, to be constructed on Florey St., is scheduled for March 4.
Those wishing to contribute monetarily can contact the Habitat office. Contributions of $250 and above can have their name on a square on the “Women Build” quilt, which will be donated to the library upon completion of the home.
