Mr. and Mrs. Bert E. Woodruff of Kilgore celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005. A dinner was held in their honor at Johnny Cace's in Longview. The event, given by their daughters, Joy Woodruff, Martha Woodruff Coplin, Myra Woodruff and Donna Woodruff Chrastecky, was attended by family and friends from the area. Grandchildren attending included Colin Fletcher, Brittany Fletcher, Travis Chrastecky and Steven Chrastecky. The couple were married Dec. 17, 1955, in Stamps, AR. Bobbie Woods Woodruff, born in Hall County, Texas, and reared in the Upshur County, Texas area, is a former KISD public school music teacher and has taught private piano since her retirement. She received a Bachelor of Music from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall and a Master's Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. She began her teaching career in the Pine Tree School District and then taught music at New London Elementary School. Bert Woodruff, from Navarro County, attended North Texas State University in Denton, where he studied business administration, receiving both his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Education degrees. Bert served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He taught at Overton High School and joined the Kilgore College faculty as a part time instructor in 1952. In 1953, he became a full time instructor for several years. Then, he served 25 years as KC business manager, followed by a term of service as vice president of Business and Finance and was named president in February of 1989. He retired as KC president in January of 1993. Since retirement, he has devoted himself to the development of an extensive East Texas floral garden.
