Top Marian Richardson, Beta Mu president, presents "Blanket and Book" service project to Gregg Home for the Aged. At the gala dinner & charity auction held at Kilgore's Forest Home Baptist Church,
Delta Kappa Gamma Society Int'l offered its 2005-06’s special project: "Love Knot" Blankets & Books with presentations to Gregg Home for the Aged and Truman Smith Children's Center. Members of the Beta Mu Chapter, women educators from Gladewater, Kilgore, Sabine and White Oak, created "Love Knot" Blankets pairing each with an age appropriate magazine or book and filled 45 colorful gift bags. Marian Richardson, chapter president, (Kilgore) welcomed guests. Doris Snow, Ceremonials Chairman, (Kilgore) gave the invocation.
Co-hostess, Annice Lewis (Gladewater) introduced the Auctioneer, her husband, Bud Lewis. Auctioneer Lewis entertained the crowd with his humorous observations and anecdotes. Offering 26 items at auction, sales netted $500+. Beta Mu members are extremely grateful for our community's involvement which was critical to the auction's success. Besides items contributed by members, 8 businesses including Decorate Ornate, Iron Magnolias, Jobe Drug, Nema's Hair Salon, Texas Bank & Trust, & Paradise Pointe Pizza of Gladewater, and Velvet Moon, & Village Florist of White Oak contributed merchandise or services to the auction. Lewis expressed her thanks for the generosity that permits Beta Mu to encourage and support area seniors through annual grants-in-aid.
Left Auctioneer, Bud Lewis, shown with his wife and auction chairman, Annice Lewis and guest, Marie Lewis, his mother. Special guest musicians, Bob & Sylvia Bolding (Kilgore) led the members and their guests in a Sing-a-Long of traditional Christmas carols as all shared in the merriment.
Fowler's Bar-B-Que (Kilgore) catered a sumptuous buffet including smoked brisket & ham with their signature sauce, colorful potato salad with garnishes, and tasty baked beans. A slice of German Chocolate cake garnished with maraschino cherries and pecans & a star ornament graced each holiday setting, A glistening vintage gum drop tree with a Santa from Mrs. Richardson's extensive collection adorned each table.
