Club Au Courant takes pilgrimage Club Au Courant met Dec. 14 to celeb4rate Christmas wiht a pilgrimage to three local churches followed by a tea. The pilgrimage began at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where the group were greeted by Yvonne Kennedy, Glenda Oxesheer and the Revs. Robert and Pam Besser. Organist Jay Calender played Christmas music as member snad guests arrived. The sanctuary was decorated with red poinsettias and green garlands with a large silver and white tree in the center. Deana Covin, club social chairman, welcomed everyne to the A7u Courant Chrismtas social and introdcued organist Jay Calender and choir director James Vermillion, performed “Oh Holy Night” and the led their audience in “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Silent Night.” The group then proceeded to First Baptist Church, where they were greeted by Dorothy Camp and Opal Stewart. The sanctuary was decorated with two large poinsettia trees and garlands and bows across the altar. Jan Elliot played their piano as members and guests arrived. Dr. Jeanie Lynn, who teaches Sunday School at the church and a member of the faculty of UT Tyler, read her favorite Christmas book, a folk tale “Trees, Trees” by Helen E. Hunt. The next step on the pilgrimage was First Presbyterian Church where the group was greeted by the pastor, Dr. Bill Ingersoll. The altar was set with many pots of red poinsettias and colorful garlands on the wall above. Organist Jimmy Culp, who is in his 25th year with the church, presented the program playing Bach’s “Sleepers Awake! A Voice Astounds Us.’ Jeanne Johnsn, head of the music department at Kilgore College and member of the church choir, sand “Ave Maria.” The tred ended at First Christian Church where members and guests were greeted by Ellen Watson who invited them into the church parlor for refreshments. The dining area was cheerful with large rad candles and greenery. Yvonne Kennedy and Frances Adams served tea and punch. Approximately 50 members and guests attended.
