Beta Sigma Phi enjoys Christmas program

Preceptor Omicron Epsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi met Dec. 6 at the home of Mickey Hughey. President Jennifer Utzman presided calling the meeting to order and leading members in the Opening Ritual.

President Utzman then asked for reports from club officers and committee chairmen. Secretary Jennie Daigle read the minutes of the last meeting and Glenda Oxsheer, treasurer, reported on club finances.

Mickey Hughey read an invitation to commencement exercises for Sally Herron, a former Margaret Matlock scholarship recipient.

Program chairman Deana Covin reminded members of the Christmas tea on Dec. 20 at the home of Jo Hancock.

President Utzman introduced Jennie Daigle to give the program. Keeping with the Christmas spirit, Mrs. Daigle chose to read a Christmas fairytale.

She began by reading the book and saying that Christmas is just a few short days away. We are in a rush to buy the perfect gifts, decorate our homes, cook meals and to go to special events. There is a sense of hurry, hurry, hurry. In our rush, we sometimes forget to stop and rejoice that we can celebrate Christmas. Let’s stop and remember that Christmas is a time to prepare our hearts and minds for lasting peace, love and joy.

“Baldytop” is an English fairytale written by Pat Wynnejones, illustrated by William Geldart and dedicated to “Amy.”

It is Christmas. The goblins under the oak tree are hurrying to finish the toys for Father Christmas to deliver, but in the rush one ragdoll is left with no hair. As Father Christmas speeds toward the village, Baldytop is jostled out of the sleigh and left alone in a snowdrift.

Will she ever find a friend? The smiling star of the night sky, a hungry squirrel, some chattering magpies, and even the friendly hare only leave her feeling more forlorn. But then a very special visitor comes by and Christmas promises to be a happy one after all.

Those attending were: Pudge Griffin, Marcela Harkrider, Glenda Oxsheer, Yvonne Kennedy, Deana Covin, Frances Adams, Barbara Mabery, Jennie Daigle, Debra Albertson, Jennifer Utzman, Mickey Hughey and Marion Dovel.

On Dec. 20, members of Preceptor Omicron Epsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Jo Hancock to celebrate Christmas with an afternoon tea.

Mrs. Hancock welcomed visitors at the door. The house was beautifully decorated with lights, poinsettias and other Christmas ornaments. Members and guests sat at tables covered with white cloths and colorful Christmas centerpieces. Traditional high tea refreshments of tea, scones, sandwiches and cookies were served.

Glenda Oxsheer read the traditional Christmas story “A Cup of Christmas Tea.”

Those attending were: Jennifer Utzman, Annette Morgan, Jennie Daigle, Yvonne Kennedy, Glenda Oxsheer, Peggy Campbell, Frances Adams, Debra Albertson, Dimples Burns, Roberta Boggs, Deana Covin, Marion Dovel, Jo Hancock, Marcela Harkrider, Vivian Patton, Janie Slayter, Opal Stewart, and guest, Corinne Calender.
