KHS boys lose to Pittsburg in tourney, girls host J’ville

For three periods, the Kilgore High School Bulldogs gave stateranked Pittsburg everything it could handle. And then came the fourth period. Kilgore lost to Pittsburg, 74-60, on Thursday night in White Oak as a part of the Roughneck Invitational tournament. The Bulldogs (4-6) were to play Pine Tree, a District 17-4A rival, as the tournament continued today. Tonight’s game against PT is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The ’Dogs got 14 points from Wayne Daniels and 12 from Jeremy Sanders, the only two Bulldogs in double figures. Kilgore only scored 10 points in the fourth period — incredibly, Pittsburg, trailing KHS 50-48 at the end of the third, scored 26. Pittsburg was led by Kendall Wright’s 28 points. The KHS Lady Bulldogs return home tonight to face Jacksonville, the second District 17-4A game for the Lady ’Dogs. Kilgore (9-7 overall, 0-1 in 17-4A play) lost at Whitehouse, 34-32, on Tuesday night. Freshmen will play tonight at 5 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity.
