LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor: Please be aware as we approach the upcoming campaign season of the unfairness of the current Texas Election Code, which is really an embarrassment. Be aware that not everyone gets to run for office fairly in Texas, as Independents and other cannot start gathering signatures until the day after the primaries. According to our State and US Constitution, anyone can run if they meet the age and residency requirements, as nothing about being a member of the Two-Party System, or being Republican or a Democrat is mentioned. I thought everyone had a fair chance. Not only do those who vote in the primary lose their 14th amendment right to participate in all government electoral processes, they lose the right to help others, though they are not obligated to vote for that person either. Let’s get in the race on equal footing to where everyone can have the same opportunity, giving everyone more voice and choice. It is out-and-out unfair competition, as let us call it what it is. When an Independent wants to run, they have to wait until the day after the primary and secure five hundred votes from registered voters who did not vote in the primaries, to get their name on the ballot in November. Now, remembering how one votes in the primaries has no bearing on how one has to vote in November, and also knowing that by signing a petition in no way obligates the one who signed their name does not obligate that vote in November, why would the Election Code of Texas set up that way? We always used to shoot square in Texas. It really has changed hasn’t it? Time to get back on the right track, and I appreciate your time. Why vote in the primaries? The only vote that counts is in November and why not everyone just run there. We would save billions state wide and only one run-off. We are not the financial giant we once were, and we are going to have to realize that and realize where we can save money and play more by the rules, a win win situation, what are we thinking about? We have got a lot of priorities. Respectfully, Frank Guy Camp Sr. Liberty City
