No more income tax roars Lions

By LESTER MURRAY news2@kilgorenewsherald.com

LION KEN NORRIS LION KEN NORRIS Ken Norris spoke to the Lions Club Thursday about a subject which has probably crossed a lot of our minds from time to time, how to eliminate the IRS.

Norris said a bill is being proposed to Congress which would create the Fair Tax Bill, creating a national sales tax and eliminating the income tax.

Norris said eliminating the Internal Revenue Service would save the country over $8 billion a year. “The figure now being proposed is a 23 percent sales tax on all new goods,” said Norris. “The idea is, the more you make the more you spend and the amount of taxes you pay would be proportionate.”

Norris said this would even get money from people who make their living illegally or receive money under the table for payment. “Those people are not paying income tax now but with the new national sales tax everyone who spends money pays to support the federal government,” said Norris. “Even people who come into the country as visitors or those who enter illegally will spend money and pay taxes.”

Norris said the so-called Fair Tax would create jobs where the current system destroys jobs, gives each working person their whole paycheck (no deductions), eliminates social withholdings, eliminates corporate taxes, lowers effective tax rates for lower and middle income, allows people to save more and, in the end, generates the same amount of money for the federal government.

Norris said there will even be a rebate system where the government will send each family a check each month based on size of family and income.

Norris said the President’s panel for tax reform is planning no tax reform again, eliminating more deductions, increasing taxes on businesses which will escalate the price of goods. “There is a phone number to call President Bush which is (202)-4561111 to show support for House Bill 25 and Senate Bill 25,” said Norris. “Representative Louie Gohmert is not yet decided on whether to support the Fair Tax Bill but he can be reached at (202) 225-3035.

Norris said you can go to their web site at FairTax.org to get further information and to download a petition which can be sent in to show support for the bill

Norris said the bill is being supported by educational and lobbying nonprofit and nonpartisan organizations and Americans For Fair Taxation who can be contacted at 1-800-FairTax for more information.
