Pioneer Garden Club hosts annual party

Garden club members, their families and friends in the community met at McKay’s Restaurant Friday evening, Dec. 2, to celebrate Christmas. The Christmas party is the garden club’s annual event to thank friends and supporters in the community for the contributions they make to the successes of garden club ventures throughout the year.

Geneva Taylor, garden club president, extended greetings and set the tone for the evening of remembering the true meaning of Christmas and the reason for the season.

Everyone enjoyed a wonderful warm environment in a room with tables beautifully decorated by Mrs. Virginia Cameron. After good fellowship and a tasty meal, Mrs. Floydine Taylor, program planner and director entertained the audience with her repertoire of humorous selections. She also moved the gaiety along by presenting entertainment by Mr. Horace Bryant, who did the same. Other guests were invited to open mike. Several aspiring entertainers accepted the dare and aroused laughter from everyone who attended.

The evening festivities continued with the presentation of gifts to the oldest garden club members and the exchange of Christmas cards. Poinsettias were given to each member and finally, door prizes were given. Luckily, every guest won a door prize.

The evening ended with expressions of appreciation by the president and the benediction by Rev. Billy Medlock.
