KILGOROUND

BILL WOODALL

CHANGE of plans: The United States Postal Service originally said the post office in Kilgore would be open Saturdays during December to make it easier to get holiday packages shipped.

THIS week, though, USPS decision makers unmade one decision and replaced it with another.

YOU must now do your post office business during the regular Mondaythrough Friday lobby hours.

AND speaking of postal officials...

NEXT time you see Postmaster Chuck Maxwell ask him to describe his experiences as the winner of a Postal Service talent show.

THOSE who’ve seen Chuck in action at the keyboard, know that when it comes to musical demonstrations he is (a) a ham with a monstrouslylarge smile and (b) actually pretty darned good.

IF ever there was an amateur musician who has fun, it’s Chuck. But if a pressing schedule is

your enemy, don’t get him started on ‘My Darlin’ Clementine.’ He knows all the verses.

UNITED FUND campaign chairman Patty Ford and her dedicated bunch of volunteers invested a great deal of time and energy in this year’s campaign and it paid off. United Fund has met -slighltly exceeded its $65,000 goal.

YOU matched their energy with your money, beginning with the season’s very first contribution from Helen and James Padgett.

CONGRATULATIONS to the volunteers and to the donors. The money will be well-used and greatly appreciated.

SHREVEPORT media -both print and broadcast -have devoted a fair amount of space and time to the attractions of Kilgore’s Holiday Trail of Lights.

AS A result, locals are expecting a large number of Louisianians (Louises? Louisiananites? Louisianers?) here next Friday night for the Chamber of Commerce’s Snow Hill at the World’s Richest Acre.

AS IT turns out, you -Kilgore taxpayers -are major underwriters of the terrific project as a result of City Hall’s participation in financing the fun event.

THE Snow Hill was a magnificent success last year with visitors from Henderson, Marshall, Tyler and points in between.

BEST of all, youngsters of all ages get to slide down the hill for free.

IT’S next Friday evening and, if the weather cooperates, open again on Saturday morning.

AND if you’d like to volunteer your time to help with the remaining Trail of Lights weekend, it’s not too late to call the Chamber of Commerce and make an offer.
