Clubbers treat Kilgore Manor The Fannie Rausaw Pioneer Garden Club came to Kilgore Manor Nursing Home yesterday not with just a beautiful basket of fruit but with prayer, song and the spirit of Christmas. Pat Johnson, program director waited with residents of the home for the annual visit from the Pioneer Garden Club. Club members put on a program for the residents which included remarks and meditation from Geneva Taylor, club president, prayer led by Lillie B. Smith. Members of the club had an interactive program where residents of Kilgore Manor joined in during the singing of Christmas songs such as Silent Night, Away in the Manger, Joy to the World and Go Tell It on the Mountain to bring in the spirit of the season. Club members handed out fruit to the residents in the day room who could be present for the program and after the program club members visited those residents who could not leave their rooms. Jean Wheatfall, public relations for the Pioneer Garden Club said the annual visits started as an opportunity for club members to spread cheer to the people they visit. “But each year it proves to be the opposite,” said Wheatfall. “Club members always leave feeling they are the ones who received the joy and the visits are anxiously anticipated from one Christmas to the next.” Wheatfall said the club has approximately 15 members and has been spreading cheer in the community for years. Other members of the club present for the program were Nerline Faber, Darnetta Strong, Virginia Cameron, secretary, Mary MaCrey, Wilma Bryant, treasurer and Lillie B. Smith.
