VIRGIE WILLIAMS

VIRGIE WILLIAMS, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 3, 2005.

She was born in Morgantown, Kentucky on March 23, 1918, to Lester H. and Dee C. Keown. Virgie moved with her family from Kentucky to Texas at an early age settling in East Texas.

Her father was a respected oil driller for various oil companies during the East Texas oil boom and the family resided in several different locations in East Texas before settling in Kilgore, Texas, where Virgie spent most of her youth and attended school. She also met and married her husband, Walter L. Williams, in Kilgore, and subsequently moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they resided for almost 50 years.

While residing in Corpus Christi, Virgie was active in the Methodist church and various other organizations, including one of her favorites, the Saxet Heights Garden Club, where she served in various capacities, including President. She enjoyed numerous activities, was an excellent seamstress, a respected antique dealer and enjoyed decorating.

Virgie and Walter moved to Houston in 1985, to be near their children and grandchildren and she continued her career as a knowledgeable and respected antique dealer, until her death.

Virgie is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Dee Keown; her sister, Pauline Keown White; brothers, Chester Keown and Sherman Keown; beloved husband, Walter L. Williams.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Williams of Houston, Texas; three (3) sons, Walter B. Williams and wife, Martha of Houston, Texas, Herbert L. Williams and wife, Cynda of Sugar Land, Texas, and William R. “Bill” Williams and wife, Sandra of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Robert W. Morrow and wife, Karen of Pearland, Texas, Tracey L. Gordon and husband, Chris, of Montgomery, Texas, Sandra L. Miller and husband, Robb, of Austin, Texas, Jeffrey A. Williams and wife, Holly, of Beaufort, South Carolina, Paul W. Williams and wife, Traci, of Houston, Texas, James R. Scott and wife, Kim, of Winter Haven, Florida, and Christopher R. Martin of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Travis and Cole Morrow, Zachary Williams, Colton Gordon and Courtney Scott; nephew, Terry Keown and wife, Judy of Dallas, Texas; sister-inlaw, Ruth T. Williams of Houston, Texas and many more friends.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 1:00pm at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Avenue, Houston, Texas 77007. Virgie will be buried alongside her husband, Walter, of 60+ years, on the 7th anniversary of his passing.
