Kemp injured in two-car accident on FM 349

Retired Kilgore businessman Gore Kemp was injured in a two-car accident here yesterday afternoon.

Officer John Rowe of the Kilgore Police Department reported the accident on FM 349 yesterday at 2:28 p.m.

Rowe said in his report that Kemp, of 28 Eden Place, was attempting to make a U-turn in a private drive. Steven Ray Hamilton, 11396 CR 1111, was driving westbound on FM 349 in a 1991 GMC when Kemp turned in front of him, causing the accident.

Capt. Norris Wimberley, Kilgore Police Department, said both vehicles came to rest upside down. “Kemp was transported to Laird Memorial Hospital by Champion ambulance service with non-incapacitating injuries,” said Wimberley. “Hamilton refused treatment at the scene.”

Rowe said Kemp told him at the scene that he was going to make a U-turn using the private

drive to go back westbound on FM 349.
