Hwy. 135 due to re-open today after fatal truck accident yesterday

A portion of Highway 135 north of Liberty City is expected to re-open today. The highway was closed yesterday morning after a Pilgrim’s Pride truck overturned and its driver killed.

A tractor-trailer driven by Fred Baxter, 59, apparently ran off the highway and then overturned when Baxter over-corrected. The dump-trailer loaded with chicken parts flipped and collided with a bridge rail.

The accident was at the bridge over Caney Creek south of Crews Road.

Baxter was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed so workers could repair the bridge railing. Hazardous waste clean-up crews worked yesterday cleaning up chicken parts from the roadway.
