KILGOROUND

BILL WOODALL

EVEN Dustin Hoffman started his acting career somewhere...

AUSTIN HIGGINS, 9-year-old grandson of Helen and Bill Merrill of Kilgoround, was among the stars of “A Christmas Carol” produced by the Henderson Civic Theater as part of its “Charles Dickens Christmas.”

PERFORMANCES are scheduled tonight and Saturday evening at 7:30 and at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, 7:30 each evening next week and again at 2:30 p.m. next Sunday.

JAN JAYNES, for the fifth time, was in New York City to help Mike Miller with his entry in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. This time a Kilgore youngster was there with her.

MILLER, a Henderson native, is a former Kilgore College cheerleader and owner of Mike Miller & Associates Special Events. This is his twentieth year to organize an entry in the parade -either a float, a cheerleading entry or a drill team -composed of youngsters from across the country.

AMONG those on Miller’s float this year was Ryan Wayne, daughter of Shelley and Michael Wayne of Kilgore. Shelley is the assistant director of the Kilgore Rangerettes.

THE local Holiday Trail of Lights activities get underway tonight with just a whole raft of entertainment under the derricks.

KILGORE High School will perform at 6 p.m. Starshine. They will be followed by the Maude Laird Middle School Sixth Grade Choir. Winding up the musical evening will be the choir from the New Birth Fellowship Church.

TOMORROW night’s Trail of Lights takes on a different flavor when Dennis Ross and the Axberg Brothers take the stage.

IF you’re not familiar with these guys, you should be. They’re Kilgore guys who’ve been around a long time and we just pretty much guarantee that the ambulatory among us will be up and dancing. They’ll crank up – and we mean crank up – at 6 p.m.

AROUND the corner, at Heritage Square in front of the Texan Theater, Santa will be in his “house” to accept special requests from youngsters.

AND FINALLY, Orange County Choppers is a television series about a fatherand son company that builds custom motorcycles. A television show.

AND now we’re seeing pickup trucks with decals across the back window which say “Orange County Choppers.” Why? WE thoroughly enjoy the “CSI” crime series but we don’t label our car CSI. We know people who are addicted to TV soap operas but we don’t know any with “Days of Our Lives” plastered across their car.

WHAT kind of life must one have if one’s advertised identity is a TV show? We find ourselves confused by this phenomenon.
