Regular meeting of A.P.I. here. -Opening address presented by Mayor Crim- The first regular monthly meeting of East Texas Chapter of the Petroleum Institute was held in city hall last night with Mayor Malcom Crim presenting the opening address. In his remarks to the oil men of East Texas, Mr. Crim welcomed them heartily in behalf of the city of Kilgore and stressed the importance of cooperation. He expressed his appreciation of the efforts and enthusiasm manifested by the various operators in this program for the betterment of oilfield conditions and was very optimistic with reference to the future outlook for the oil industry.
August 14, 1931 Plan to secure Typhoid Serum -Chamber of Commerce Committee working on problem- As part of campaigne for promoting better health conditions here a committee has been appointed by Roy H. Laird, president of the Chamber of Commerce, to work on a plan for securing free typhoid serum for these persons who are unable to buy it.

2 arrests made in shooting case -G.W. Beadle is shot in the leg- Two arrests have been made by Ranger Sergeant M.T. “Lone Wolf” Gonzaullas in connection with the shooting of G.W. Beadle, 32, on the Haynes lease near Reed Switch late wednesday afternoon. Beadle was shot in the right leg with a Lugar automatic. He was brought to the Hendrick Emergency Hospital in Kilgore Funeral Home ambulance for emergency treatment and was later taken to Dallas. He was an employee of the Republic Production Company. At last reports it was thought Beadle would sustain loss of his leg due to the fact that the bullet shattered the bone.
