Last Spring, the ladies group of Pirtle United Methodist Church conducted a garage sale to benefit missions. During this time when it seems so many people need a helping hand, the group reviewed numerous organizations, missions and ministries to aid in making a decision. The criteria for making such a decision was not lengthy. They wanted to choose a missionary effort that truly was making a difference for Christ's sake. They wanted to provide assistance for an organization that really needed the help they could offer. And they wanted the help to benefit those it was intended to help and not be used for administration or overhead costs.
The ministry effort they decided to help was in their own backyard. After all, ministry should begin at home. Helping Hands of Kilgore was selected because not only does it meet the criteria, but each month this organization reports the numbers of individuals and families it assists, right here in Kilgore. With the numbers of needy growing and the financial needs swelling, it was easy to see this was a ministry in need of help.
The Ladies Group of Pirtle UMC were proud to offer its financial support and prayers to Helping Hands of Kilgore. Ministry director, Robin Hopkins, was on hand for the special presentation of a check for $900.00 during a recent meeting at the church.
The Pirtle Ladies would also like to encourage other church, civic and social organizations as they review the needs of our community to look at Helping Hands of Kilgore as a method of getting the most for your charitable dollar.
