Brittany Kathryn Hedrick and James Lanceing Mathis were married at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, in the sanctuary of Highland Park Baptist Church in Kilgore. The elegantly traditional ceremony was officiated by Rev. Riley Pippen.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Hedrick and the granddaughter of Nell Compton and the late Dan Compton, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hedrick, all of Kilgore. The groom is the son of Tony Mathis of Longview and Debby Jones of Marshall. He is the grandson of James Muse and JoAnn Langley of Marshall and the late Glynda Williams and Franky Mathis.
The altar was decorated with Boston ferns and spiral tea-light candelabra adorned with a beautiful assortment of pink flowers, including snapdragons, lilies, and roses.
Pianist, James Holder, performed a beautiful medley of love songs preceding the ceremony. He also sang "The Father Says I Do," Only God Could Love You More," and "The Lord's Prayer."
Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant mock two-piece, ivory, strapless gown. The bodice was adorned with beautiful hand-beaded swarovski crystals. The organza skirt had exquisite beaded lace appliques that were scattered along the skirt and trimmed the semi-cathedral train. The bride wore a strand of pearls belonging to her grandmother. She carried her great-grandmother's handkerchief of embroidered pink roses in a hand-tied bouquet consisting of multi-shades of pink and ivory roses.
Kim Watson of Marshall, wife of the groom's brother, served as matron-of-honor. The bridesmaids were Tayler Bittick, Ashley Anthony, Lindsey King, Lisa and Leanne Hedrick, cousins of the bride, all of Kilgore. The bridesmaids wore soft pink strapless organza gowns, which cascaded in tiers of ruffles.
Tony Mathis, father of the groom, served as Best Man. Other groomsmen were Joshua Watson, brother of the groom; Robert Riggs and Tony Muse, uncle of the groom, all of Marshall; and Jeremy Honea and Bret Hedrick, brother of the bride, from Kilgore.
Cousins of the bride, Ivy Compton and Grant Compton, both of Golden, CO., served as flowergirl and ringbearer, respectively.
The ushers were Derek Santos, cousin of the bride, of Dallas, Jeremy Scates of Shreveport, LA., Aaron Chitwood of Kilgore, and Mat Wilson of Hallsville.
A reception followed in the Fellowship Hall of Highland Park Baptist Church. The bride's cake was served by Jena Walker of Kilgore, cousin of the bride, and Alison Compton of Golden, CO.,, aunt of the bride. The chocolate groom's cake was decorated in a baseball theme and served by the groom's aunts, Stefanie Muse of Marshall and Pam Muse of Magnolia, AR. A beautiful waterfall arrangement of fresh fruits, nuts, and mints were also served.
Brittany is a sophomore entering the nursing program at East Texas Baptist University. Lance graduated from ETBU last spring with a B.A. degree in Speech Communication and English. He is employed as the assistant baseball coach at ETBU.
After a honeymoon trip to Disney World, the couple is now at home in Marshall.
