On this date in 1931... Second Refinery Assured for Kilgore
On this date in 1931...Second Refinery Assured for Kilgore Kilgore is soon to get its second refinery according to a telegram recieved from A.C. Hill of Dallas by Roy H. Laird, president of Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, and surveyors are expected in Kilgore immediatelyto begin the surveying of the site on the Roy H. Laird farm. Negotiations have been underway for some time between Hill and Chamber of Commerce officials in regard top the location of the refinery here. Roy H. Laird offered to donate a site to secure the refinery here and after this generous offer was made Hill notified Laird he would locate here. The refinery is to have a capacity of 2,000 barrels daily and it is planned to increase this to 5,000 barrels. Arrangements have been completed for a 10-car loading rack at the railroad to care for shipments of gasoline from the plant. Since making an intensive campaign to secure refineries for Kilgore Chamber of Commerce has secured two plants within the past two weeks and negotiations are underway for the start of construction on other refineries in Kilgore.
July 17, 1931 Drilling Campaign Sets Rapid Pace in E. Texas Prices falling near the zero point in the East Texas fields has had little effect in curbing drilling operations and curtailing the production of crude in the East Texas areas. While prices have sunk to new low levels the past week, the average price being 16.2 cents a barrel with the lowest recorded price being seven cents, operators still continue to drill with 37 new drilling permits being secured during the first half of the week. While low prices do not seem to curtail production in the East Texas area the only bar to extensive drilling appears to be inability to secure pipeline connections. Last reliable reports indicate there are now nearly 200 wells in EastTexas areas without pipe line connections. In addition to the wells without connection, there are now over 150 wells drilling in the Kilgore pool, which will add to the list of unconnected wells.
