Rusk County Sciences Fair in August

The third annual Rusk County Family and Consumer Sciences Fair and Fruit & Vegetable Show is scheduled for August 15th19th, and will be held in the Rusk County Extension Office Meeting Room Any resident of Rusk County is eligible to enter the fair, and there is no limit on the number of items a person can enter.

The age divisions are: Preschool - ages 3-5; Junior grades 1st-5th; Intermediategrades 6th-8th; Senior - grades 9th-12th; and Adult - age 19 years and up. Contest divisions are: Food, Canning, Craft, Quilt, Art, Photography, Wo o d working, Horticulture, and Fruits and Ve g e t a bles. Each division has various classes in which to compete.

Also, special food preservation awards are being furnished by the Alltrista Company (makers of Mason, Ball, and Kerr canning jars and canning supplies). Remember the Canning Division of the FCS Fair is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the beautiful vegetables, jellies, jams, and preserves resulting from area gardens and orchards.

The following is the 2005 fair schedule:

Monday, August 15th

Check-In of Entries - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Thursday, August 18h

Judging of Entries

Friday; August 19th

Public Viewing - 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.

Group Photograph of 2005 FCS Fair Winners - 12:30 p.m.

Pick-up Entries - 1:00 p.m. 5:30 p.m.

Last year’s fair saw approximately 100 entries. So, make plans now to place entries in the FCS Fair, and join in the fun and friendly competition.
