District Judge Clay Gossett in Rusk County issued a gag order Friday in connection with the manslaughter trial of David Lea Reid. Gossett signed the order just three days before jury selection is to begin at the Rusk County Court House. Reid is being tried on manslaughter charge and racing which involved a vehicle accident which killed four teenagers, one of which was own sister. Gossett’s order restricts police, witnesses, court participants, attorneys, parties, investigators or any other persons associated with the investigation, trial or otherwise to comment to the media. District Attorney Michael Jimerson will be prosecuting for the State of Texas. He could not be comment on the gag order Friday afternoon. The state asked for the imposition of the gag order. Daryl Bennett, attorney for Reid, earlier filed a motionasking that the trial be moved out Rusk County because of publicity surrounding the case. Bennett argued that Reid could not get a fair trail in Rusk County. Gossett denied that motion.
