164 Wells are Drilling Now In Kilgore Section

The latest drilling reports for the East Texas fields, compiled for the week ending July 1, 1931, shows a decline of eleven in the number of drilling operations in the Kilgore, Joiner and Lanthrop fields under the previous week. The report shows 164 wells drilling in the Kilgore area, 167 in the Joiner area, and 144 in the Lanthrop pool. Drilling of 92 wildcats in the East Texas fields are now under way.

Kilgore Becomes a Supply Center

The fact that Kilgore is the supply center for the East Texas oil fields was never so impressively pointed out as it was when owners of the burning well at Overton searched through every town in the East Texas oil fields for fire hose. When the searchers for fire hose reached Kilgore, they found that J.E. Blaine, organizer of the Kilgore Fire Department, and now selling fire fighting equipment in this territory, had an ample stock of fire hose here in addition to other fire fighting equipment.

Lions Club Guests to Make Final Plans

for Opening of City Hall

City commissioners, Roy H. Laird and Ben Laird will be guests at the Kilgore Lions Club meeting at noon tomorrow. Mayor J. Malcom Crim, a member of the Lions Club will also be on hand. Plans will be taken up at the meeting relative to the formal opening of the new Kilgore city hall, which is sponsored by the Lions Club. The opening is scheduled for next Monday, July 13. The committee in charge of the opening is composed of Judson Bagwell, chairman; Sam Brown, Geo. I. McGee, Miss Christine Bagwell, Mrs. John T. Crim and Miss Elizabeth Hay.
