Heart Association names officers, honors ‘best’

Richardson will lead local chapter

AWARD RECIPIENTS – American Heart Association representative Susan Elizondo (left) presents certificates to Kris Duplissey and Tonnie Biggs, both representing Kilgore Heights Elementary School. Students at Kilgore Heights raised $1,549 through Jump Rope for Life. The elementary school has participated in the program for 20 years. The annual meeting of the Gregg County Division Kilgore Unit of the American Heart Association was held Monday at The Willows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kilgore. Representatives of the American Heart Association presented awards and new officers for 2005-06 were installed.

Susan Elizondo, youth marketing director of the American Heart Association staff, recognized representatives of Kilgore Heights Elementary School and Kilgore Intermediate School for their participation in the Jump Rope for Heart program.

Certificates “for outstanding community service in advancing cardiovascular health and fitness and generating public support for the fight against heart disease and stroke” were presented to Kilgore Intermediate School representatives Larry Ferguson, Dan Minor and Andy Adams, assistant principal. Receiving the award for Kilgore Heights were Kris Duplissey and Tonnie Biggs.

Kilgore Heights students raised $1,549. Kilgore Intermediate School students raised $6,685, placing the Kilgore school in the top 10 in a 32-county area which includes 260 schools.

Jennifer Davis, corporate marketing director for Region 6 of the American Heart Association, presented outstanding service awards to Cindy Fields for serving as captain of a team in the organization’s heart walk, Archie Whitfield for serving as secretary/treasurer for the organization for several years, and to Pat Anderson for her efforts in the Christmas card sold by the organization.

She presented Heart of the Year Awards to Helen Goodwin and Bobbie Wylie for their leadership in health fairs throughout the year in Kilgore.

Officers installed for 2005-2006 are: Marian Richardson, president; Winnie Nicks, program chairman; Donna Beets, secretary; and Pat Anderson, treasurer.

Directors attending the luncheon provided by The Willows include E’beth Chappell, Archie Whitfield, Helen Goodwin, Pat Anderson, Mary Aikman, Winnie Nicks, Donna Beets, Marian Richardson, Larry Ferguson, Joy Wood, Margarette Allison, Ella Walker, and Howard Stephens. Guests attending include Biggs, Duplissey, Minor and Adams.

Representatives of the American Heart Association office include Jennifer Davis and Susan Elizondo.

Other directors of the Kilgore Unit are Steve Brown, Dr. Jeff Davis, Jason Edwards, Kappy Edwards, Cindy Fields, Suzanne Howard, Dr. Clark Langley, Billy Bob Lawrence, Carey McElyea, Dr. Michael McShan, Dr. Mark Miller, Sandra Reyes, Harriett Rubin and Renee Meadows Snyder.

The next meeting of the Kilgore unit will be in September.
