LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF SOFTBALL Lady 'Dogs in Henderson Friday
The Kilgore High School Lady Bulldogs, leading District 17-4A by a game over the Marshall Lady Mavericks, visit rival Henderson on Friday night at 6 p.m. Kilgore (22-6-1 overall, 10-1 in district play) is headed into its last week of the regular season, and preparing for another playoff run. The Lady 'Dogs have two consecutive road games (at Henderson Friday and at Nacogdoches on Tuesday), then host Marshall in a district title-deciding game on Friday, April 22 - that night will also be senior night. The game at Nac on Tuesday has been moved up to 4:30 p.m. due to testing. The game against Henderson will be at the city park. KHS is coached by Kasey Polk.
BASEBALL KHS has double duty this weekend Coach Tim Harkrider's Kilgore HIgh School Bulldogs (20-4, 8-1), tied with Marshall for the lead in District 17-4A, have a pair of tough games this weekend, thanks to the testing schedule on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will visit Pine Tree, the current third-place team, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Kilgore beat Pine Tree 11-0 in the first meeting between the teams this season at Driller Park, utilizing a no-hitter thrown by Pat McCrory. Tuesday's game, due to TAKS testing, has been moved up to Saturday. The Bulldogs will host Hallsville at 3 p.m. (junior varsity will play at noon). There will be no game at Driller Park on Tuesday. Hallsville and Pine Tree are both fighting for a playoff spot in 17-4A; only the top three teams will get in. With its win over Marshall two days ago, Kilgore is hoping to win at least a share of the district title.
TRACK & FIELD Bulldogs in district meet The District 17-4A track and field meet will conclude today at Hallsville High School, and both Kilgore boys and girls are participating, hoping to qualify for the regional meet. Results from the meet should be in the Friday edition of the Kilgore News Herald , or in Sunday's edition, depending on availability and deadlines. Last year, several KHS track standouts qualified for regionals, and Whitney Clark did one better, earning a spot in the state track meet in the 300 meter hurdles, where she won a silver medal for her second-place finish.
