DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS ASSOCIATION will hold a bake sale Saturday, April 2, from 11-2 in front of Brookshire’s, The Depot Restaurant and Beall’s. The money will be used to purchase a van for transportation of the vets for medical appointments, etc. SUNDAY MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH will celebrate their 88th anniversary Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Ricky Abraham, pastor of Brown Chapel CME Church in Big Sandy, as guest speaker. Rev. Willie Bryant invites the public to the service. The church is on FM 850 East, Overton. MONDAY members of the khs class of ‘95 will hold a reunion planniong meeting Monday, April 4, at the Back Porch at 6 p.m. Persons interested in helping plan the reunion are welcome to attend. Newcomers are always welcome. THE GREGG COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY meets Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the Cecile Moeschle Room of the Longview Public Library at 222 W. Cotton. The program will be “History of the Celtics” by Jim Sturrock. WEDNESDAY hilltoppers will meet Wednesday, April 6, at 11 a.m. The covered dish luncheon begins at 11:30. At noon, James Kennedy will talk about the New London school explosion. THURSDAY A planning session for the KHS graduation party will be held Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Persons interested in participating should plan to attend. The organization collects mysteries, westerns and romance novels which they sell to patients for 25 cents. They have all the Harlequin romances they need. THE HOSPITAL AUXILIARY at Laird Memorial Hospital will conduct their fund-raising book fair from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on April 26 and from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on April 27. Books will be for sale in the lobby next to the gift shop. THE LOCAL CHAPTER OF TAKING OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY (TOPS) will meet every Monday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Weigh-in starts at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mary Helen Craig, the new TOPS leader in Kilgore, said the local program is being revamped and will include more activities and speakers. Judge Sandra Hodges will be proclaiming the second week in April as Rusk County Library Week. Activities will be held each day starting with the Mardi Gras Party on Monday starting at 10:30 a.m., Open House and Dress as a Book Character Day on Tuesday, Smokey the Bear and the Azalea Belles will be visiting Wednesday, Thursday is 50’s Day and Friday is Patriotic Day.
