KHPF names stage in honor of Winter Elder

The stage at World's Richest Acre Park will be named the Winter Dickson Elder Stage. The decision to name the stage came April 17 when the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation directors voted unanimously to honor Elder by naming the stage in her honor.

The Longview man police say is responsible for the death of Shannon Utzman Gilley two weeks ago, has been arrested and arraigned on charges of intoxicated manslaughter, after toxicology tests revealed that alcohol was a factor in motorcycle/ pickup collision on FM 349.

Texas sales tax revenue slows

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced the state collected $1.7 billion in sales tax revenue in April, down 1.8 percent compared to April 2007. "This was a slight decrease compared to the dramatic growth seen in April 2007," Combs said. "For the eight months of fiscal 2008 to date, state sales tax collections are up 6 percent compared to the previous year.

Electrician Grady McBride hooked us up with Industrial Electric in Lone Star. THEY worked through the weekend rebuilding the motor so that we could run the presses again on Tuesday.

Council to consider adopting jay-walking ordinance

When Kilgore city council meets next week they will be asked to consider adopting an ordinance against jay-walking. The council agenda calls for council members to consider a prohibition against crossing the street, except at a crosswalk, in a designated commercial district.
