Kilgore’s Lions Club warmed the Community House and many a belly with its annual Chili Luncheon Friday. Diners from Gregg and Rusk Counties paid their door tickets at the entrance for bowls of red – with or without beans – and the choice of onions, jalapeno peppers, shredded cheese or pepper sauce. Ice tea cooled the palates and slices of assorted cakes sweetened the gums. more
Kilgore College has accepted a $500,000 donation from an alumnus and philanthropist to cover expenses related to improving campus technology infrastructure. Kelcy Warren, billionaire and founder of Energy Transfer Partners, a Dallas-based Fortune 500 natural gas and propane pipeline transport company, bestowed the half-million gift to help the college upgrade their wireless networks. more

Texas legislators are considering a tremendous increase to K-12 public school funding in the current legislative session. According to the Texas Tribune, on Monday, the House put forward a budget proposal asking for a 17 percent bump in state funds allocated to public schools. This increase translates to about $7 billion. more
Three Kilgore College Ranger Band members have been named to the Texas Community College Band Directors Association (TCCBDA) All-State Band. Ranger Band members selected are Martha Whitfield (flute) from Kilgore; Kellen Maples (baritone saxophone) from Longview; and Amber Burgett (clarinet) from Gilmer. more
