      NACOGDOCHES — Rest easy, Kilgore High School football fans: not only are your Bulldogs in the Class 4A playoffs, but they might have had their best performance so far this season in the process. Kilgore went up 24-0, then held off a late Nacogdoches charge for a 48-28 win on Friday night.

Arp escapes from West Rusk
From special reports
      The West Rusk Raiders gave the No. 1- ranked and 10-0 Arp Tigers all they could handle, but Arp did escape New London with a 21-14 win. The loss dropped West Rusk to 7-2 on the year, the only other loss having been to Garrison two weeks ago. The Raiders finished 3-2 in District 19-2A.

White Oak gets by scrappy Sabine, 42-21

      WHITE OAK — The Sabine Cardinals put up some good offensive numbers Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an experienced White Oak team. The Roughnecks battled to a 42- 21 victory over the Cardinals at home, and will now prepare for a Thursday-night playoff matchup with the Jefferson Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. in Hallsville.

Mustangs blow out Cross Roads in ’09 finale

      CROSS ROADS — It was a season largely of frustration for the Overton High School Mustangs, but at least they finished it well. Overton defeated homestanding Cross Roads 48-17, getting a huge win in the season finale for both teams. The Mustangs finished the season with a 3-7 overall record, but broke a fourgame losing streak with this win.

Kilgore College men win again
Now 2-0 on season; games that were scheduled for today canceled

      A good, quick start is what Kilgore College men’s basketball coach Brian Hoberecht was likely hoping for, and that’s what he’s got. The Rangers moved to 2-0 on the season Wednesday night with a 63-43 victory at home at Masters Gymnasium over a club team from Stephen F. Austin.

LC loses tight playoff

      GLADEWATER — The Leverett’s Chapel Lady Lions finished their volleyball season Tuesday night in an ultraclose first round playoff loss to the Big Sandy Lady Cats. LC, which finishes with a 14-12 overall record (they were 6-4 in District 20-1A play), took Big Sandy to five games: 23-25, 25-12, 12-25, 25-22, 8-15.
