Rangerette kidnapping suspect gets April trial date

A trial date for a Kilgore woman accused of kidnapping a Rangerette at gunpoint in 2016 has been set. Nancy Alice Motes, 59, is scheduled to go to trial April 15 for two charges of aggravated kidnapping stemming from incidents which are said to have occurred Dec. 29, 2016.

Filing continues through Feb. 16 for May election

Filing for local city and school elections is underway – several seats in Kilgore will be on the May ballot. In the city council, Mayor Ronnie Spradlin’s term is expiring, opening up the possibility of a challenger stepping forward. Also up for election is the Place 2 seat, currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Harvey McClendon and the Place 3 seat, currently occupied by Mike Sechrist, who moved into the position when Place 3 councilman Neil Barr died last May.

      It would not be hyperbole – exaggeration – to say the Kilgore College Rangers probably saved their season Saturday afternoon in Carthage. Coach Brian Hoberecht and his team dealt Panola College a 64-62 loss in Region XIV Conference play on Saturday, just Panola’s second loss of the conference schedule. It stunned the Ponies, but it lifted the Rangers, who had lost four straight – all conference games – but have two of the next three at home, and evened their conference record (4-4).
