Contenders step up for posts on May ballot

Barring late developments, there will be three contested races on local voters’ ballots in May, one each for the City of Kilgore, Kilgore ISD and Kilgore College. Standard filing for the Spring 2019 election closed at 5 p.m. Friday. Write-in candidates can submit paperwork as late as Tuesday but will not appear on the ballot. In one Special Election – Place 3 on Kilgore City Council – applicants have until March 4 to sign-up.

ESD No. 2 board may call sales tax vote this spring

More than 300 people put their signature to Sabine Fire Department’s effort to add a penny-and-a-half to sales tax within Emergency Services District No. 2. From those, Gregg County has verified 273 are registered voters within the Liberty City-centered fire district, more than the 240 needed to put the measure on the ballot in May – five percent of voters in an affected zone must agree to take the question to the polls.

Two of first three games go to Kilgore

Through three games, Kilgore High School softball is off to a fairly good start, especially considering their competition. KHS started its season Thursday in a 16-team tournament in Carthage, and through Friday, the Lady ‘Dogs are 2-1, with a season-opening, 17-2 rout of Tatum, a 10-0 loss Carthage, and a 6-3 win over Marshall.
