Murder suspect now back in county

Kilgore PD’s lone suspect in the murder of Tracy Lynn Reedy has been extradited to Texas and is incarcerated in Gregg County Jail on $1,000,000 bond. Local investigators have been seeking Dwight Patrick Scott since he allegedly fled the Meadow Green Apartment Complex following the fatal shooting Dec. 31, 2017.

KC alum donates $500,000 for technology upgrades

Kilgore College has accepted a $500,000 donation from an alumnus and philanthropist to cover expenses related to improving campus technology infrastructure. Kelcy Warren, billionaire and founder of Energy Transfer Partners, a Dallas-based Fortune 500 natural gas and propane pipeline transport company, bestowed the half-million gift to help the college upgrade their wireless networks.

Poker seats available for Feb. 2 tourney

Beta Sigma Phi sorority members are getting all their decks in a row for this year’s fundraising poker tournament, planned for Feb. 2 and benefiting Kilgore ISD Education Foundation. It’s another Texas Hold ’Em showdown, this year at Hidden Timbers Lakeside Venue at 13384 CR 293 in Kilgore. Advance registration is underway, and sign-ups continue at 6 p.m. that Saturday night before the 7 p.m. tournament.

State considers school funding boost, KISD superintendent shares thoughts

Texas legislators are considering a tremendous increase to K-12 public school funding in the current legislative session. According to the Texas Tribune, on Monday, the House put forward a budget proposal asking for a 17 percent bump in state funds allocated to public schools. This increase translates to about $7 billion.

      Today

      Kilgore Garden Club met in the home of Peggy Bowne with Gayla Baxter as co-hostess. A delicious brunch was served to members and guest. The program was given by Suzanne Capella and Debra Walker, co-teachers with Peggy Bowne. The program was a series of the personal experiences and history of the East Texas Yamboree in Gilmer. The sisters have been involved in the Yamboree all their lives. They displayed items of clothing worn in the Yamboree and also pictures. Suzanne and Debra were both Ladies-in-Waiting and now their children participate.
